Do you need to staff your IT projects with a remote development team?

At Red Orange Technologies, we can help you with this. Depending on the type of expertise you need, we’ll find developers that are customized to your company’s needs. Either we have these developers within our own ranks in our extended team in India, or we utilize our extensive network to source suitable candidates and introduce them to you.

Hiring an external development team, known as IT resource services, is an important factor and service for companies that want to complement their own IT department over a longer period, for growing companies and companies that want the greatest possible degree of flexibility and scalability. We secure professionally strong developers who can complement your existing IT department. Based on your specifications as a customer, we identify the developers we believe will be best suited. Then, after the interview rounds have been completed, you decide who you want to work with. An external development team is best suited for projects that run over a longer period, and they will be perceived as permanent employees who are 100% committed to your organization. You follow up on the developers in the same way as you follow up on your own employees.

Hiring an external development team is a significantly less expensive model than hiring local IT developers. It is also more flexible and provides significant scalability of your projects.

What is a remote development team?

Red Orange Technologies Europe is managed from Norway, and you will work with your European contact person. Rest of the world is handled from our office in Pune, India. What all our services have in common is that our employees are based in Pune, India's IT capital. Many of the major international IT/Tech companies have offices and employees there. This means that we have access to many extremely well-educated and experienced developers, either in our own organization or we go out into the market and find other specific resources. India is the world's second largest English-speaking country and is well used to working with European and American work cultures. The time difference is another positive factor. When we have daylight saving time in Norway, the time difference to India is only 3.5 hours. Furthermore, India has worked with international companies and delivered IT projects all over the world for several years. This means that they have a better understanding of Western work culture and requirements than many other Asian countries. IT services and IT enabled services are the two largest Indian export items out of a total export revenue of USD 178 billion.

By utilizing an external development team, you gain access to competent IT resources that you and your team will experience as your own permanent employees and colleagues. These resources are managed directly by you, in the same way that you manage your own internal resources, without interference from us. This solution provides security and stability for both parties, and you get closer integration with your own IT resources. A team of at least two IT developers is established based on your organization’s needs, working from our offices in Pune.

Alternatively, during periods when projects indicate that it is necessary, you can have the external development team closer to your own organization by having them sit with you locally. By using an external development team, you will find that you get a fresh injection to your own resources and into your organization, while at the same time achieving the flexibility and scalability that such collaboration provides.

Day-to-day collaboration?

The external developers are based in Pune every day and work directly with you and your team. The only difference is that when their European colleagues come to work in the morning, the developers down there have already worked for a few hours. In the same way that you work with your own employees who work from home, it’s important that your external development team is closely integrated into the company’s IT department. The closer you work together, the more you will benefit from the collaboration. Frequent video meetings, attendance at all internal department meetings and clear management of expectations will ensure that the external development team is closely integrated with your own employees and follows the same progression and development of the tasks to be solved. Good collaboration solutions are of course an advantage. If you don’t have this in place today, we can help with suggestions, such as Scrum. Even though Indians speak very good English, there may still be ambiguities. Be clear about expectations and requirements, while taking the time to set up clear routines and structure.

Follow-up of the team?

We recommend that you meet your external development team in person early in the collaboration. We humans appreciate a physical connection, and it strengthens the integration of your development team into your organization. This can be solved either by inviting the team to your office for a few days or by you or other people from your company travelling down to Pune. Both solutions have their advantages. Either way, we recommend annual physical meetings after the initial introduction and preferably at least one visit to India. This allows you to experience the local culture, the local working conditions and, not least, see how your employee’s work. This also gives you the assurance that we deliver on the standards we have set ourselves and where you will experience that we put our employees at the centre. Our employees are our most important resources.

We assist and facilitate the visit, either to your office or Pune.

Are external development teams right for you and your organization?

Is your organization in a growth phase and continuing to develop? Do you currently have your own development department? Do you need more employees, but find it difficult to find competent developers locally? Do you think local developers are too expensive and take up too much capital in the phase you are in? Do you want a greater degree of flexibility and scalability in your further growth?

If the answer to these questions is “yes”, external development teams are the right fit for you and your organization. Of course, software development should be a central element of your business and an area you want to develop further.

development teams

Frequently Asked Questions

Enhancing organizational expertise.

Staff augmentation is a service delivery model employed by service providers to introduce specialists into an organization, thus strengthening and supporting their existing workforce. This approach is frequently adopted when an organization finds itself lacking the in-house resources required to fulfil its needs. And thereby must seek external expertise. Staff augmentation serves as a strategic solution to address an organization’s long-term objectives, ensuring a seamless transfer of expertise and the agility to swiftly and efficiently expand the workforce as the organization evolves.

Enhancing organizational capability.

Staff augmentation represents a specialized service delivery model where a provider introduces skilled specialists into an organization to complement its existing workforce. This approach is commonly employed when an organization faces resource constraints internally and necessitates external expertise. Staff augmentation serves as a valuable tool for aligning with an organization’s long-term strategy to ensure the sustained availability of expertise while maintaining the flexibility to rapidly and efficiently expand staff as the organization’s requirements dictate

On-site: These are employees who work within the physical premises of the company or at a designated location specified by the employer. They directly interact with colleagues, use company resources, and work within the office environment. On-site staff are physically present at the company’s location during their working hours.

Off-site: Off-site workers are still employed by the company but work remotely, typically from home or another location away from the central office. They use technology to communicate and collaborate with their team and may or may not adhere to a strict office schedule. Off-site staff can work in different time zones or geographic locations but remain within the same country as the company’s headquarters.

Offshore: Offshore workers are located in a different country from the company’s headquarters or main operations. They are part of a team that functions remotely and operates in a different time zone, often to take advantage of cost efficiencies or access to specialized talent. Offshore teams collaborate with the main team through various communication tools and may have different working hours due to time zone differences.

Each arrangement has its own advantages and challenges. On-site work promotes immediate collaboration and communication but may limit flexibility. Off-site work allows for more flexibility but can sometimes create challenges in communication and team cohesion. Offshore teams often offer cost advantages but might face cultural and timezone-related challenges while collaborating with the main team.

Though these two terms are sometimes used as equivalent, they carry subtle distinctions. Staff augmentation services primarily revolve around the provision of additional personnel, either to complement an existing team or to assemble a new one from the ground up. This is often done to address specific domains or entire projects. On the other hand, consulting services are centered on providing expert guidance and recommendations to enhance an organization’s software development processes. Here, the focus is on process improvement rather than direct staffing.

In essence, staff augmentation services are better suited for scenarios where technological resources are insufficient to execute an existing solution. In contrast, technology consulting services are a suitable choice for those actively seeking to enhance their existing solution or looking for a new solution.

Five key benefits.

  • Access to in-demand experts: It provides organizations with access to highly sought-after specialists, enhancing their capabilities in specific areas.
  • Skill gap mitigation: Staff augmentation helps bridge skill gaps within the existing team, ensuring a more well-rounded skill set.
  • Cost savings: Companies can effectively manage labour costs by hiring additional resources as needed, without the financial commitment of full-time employees.
  • Improved quality and efficiency: The infusion of external expertise often leads to higher-quality work and increased operational efficiency.
  • Accelerated time to market: Staff augmentation enables quicker product and service launches, reducing the time to market.
